Kool-Aid

In spite of the fact that I constantly berate my again invisible friend Base Rich, he seems to have fallen into a desperate state of writer’s block, I guess.  But regardless of his public disappearing act, make no mistake that we’ve been blowing up each other’s inboxes and voicemails daily with excited commentary on last weekend’s wins over Nebraska and Western Kentucky.

While it would be disingenuous to suggest that it took two nice wins to sell us on this season (so much as a Ben-Eze swat or a Brooks dunk would be enough to secure our season-long obsession), the amazing growth of this team over a one-week period has been getting us excited.  The Penn loss surely got us down, but that seems now like a distant memory that needs never to be discussed again.

Today, another test awaits — the Rhode Island Rams.  URI looked very strong last season, and even beat Davidson 75-65, but faded down the stretch, only to enjoy a 3-win NIT run.  The Rams challenged Pitt this season, and then beat College of Charleston (one of the preseason favorites in the Socon).

A win, while not earth-shattering, would be important for this team’s continued growth, especially given the dearth of quality non-conference games remaining on the schedule.

Go CATS!
