2011-12 Opener Tonight
Here we are on the eve of another Davidson basketball season, and with the new season comes another iteration of Lefty’s Legacy. Since this blog’s inception in 2007, we’ve moved from Tumblr to Wordpress, back to Tumblr again, and cycled through several designs. With much of our time these days dedicated to the billable hour, we return this season to a simpler format, where we can post quick thoughts, links, pictures, and anything else we may come across, hopefully on a quasi-daily basis. In truth, this blog simply provides a public venue for me and Base Rich to engage in our day-to-day Davidson basketball banter. We’ll hopefully eschew the long-winded essays, and instead create a sort of collage of our impressions of the season. At least that’s how I envision this. Surely, Base Rich has a different goal in mind. Fortunately, our friendship, and, by extension, this blog, would never have come to fruition if it were not for our incessant rivalry.
As for the new season, various writers and coaches are projecting Davidson to return to the top of the Socon standings. With the heady expectations of recent years, this seems like a reasonable, if humble goal. Yet, we are to face several difficult opponents immediately, beginning with Richmond and Duke in the next week, and then Kansas and Vanderbilt before the year’s end. Will this team rise to the occasion? With 2008 in our not-so-distant past, we feel no embarrassment in believing that it can, and perhaps it will. But, unlike last season, I’ll try my best not to get ahead of myself. Game 1, as we know from last season, is no gimme. Here’s hoping we can dispose of Guilford with ease, and move forward with some confidence.
